The Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA) and the Tourism & Hospitality Association of Guyana (THAG) on Thursday officially launched its first Restaurant Week for this year, slated to begin Friday with special emphasis being placed on keeping the environment clean.

During the launch at Herdmanston Lodge in Queenstown, Georgetown, officials said the 19 restaurants on board have been asked to adhere to three ‘green initiatives’.

“We have asked THAG and the restaurants to start with three small green initiatives for Guyana restaurant week these are, using biodegradable boxes for food takeaways, using paper bags instead of plastic bags for takeaways and even in dining to not offer plastic straws to unless your patrons requested them,” Deputy Director of GTA, Carla James said.

Patrons can expect the minimum standard prices for two-course lunch offers of GY$2,500 and three to five-course dinner offers for GY$5,500 inclusive of a bottle of wine from select registered dining establishments.

Director of GTA, Carla James said.

A new Guyana restaurant week social media platform and website was also established to aggressively build public awareness of the event.

President of THAG, Mitra Ramkumar also spoke about the menus being offered.

“These restaurants, in addition to maintaining the price to encourage domestic participation, they have been able to add value to that. Marriott is offering a different dinner menu every day, and those who offer a set menu every night will have three to four meals to choose from coming from the appetizer to the main course to the dessert. The Duke [Lodge] restaurant has five courses for dinner so you really need to go to Guyana restaurant week and see what is being offered.”
