While the attention will be gripped on the Unlimited category which should produce blistering action if cars are void of mechanical issues and the most importantly, the weather holds, fans should keep an eye out for the 13-second group at this Sunday’s Drag Race meet.
Why?
There is Romeo Singh and his Toyota Glanza, beaming with confidence to take the 13-second title in round two at South Dakota Circuit.
In 2018, Singh accumulated 184 points to be crowned the 12-second champion, but at the first meet for 2019 in March, he did not participate due to travel commitments.
It means therefore, he is yet to compete on the new launch-pad. He is however, confident fast times can be achieved on Sunday.
“Preparations for this event are coming along very good. I have completed all the mechanical works…Retuning the car tomorrow [Friday] with a new ECU to extract the most power out of motor,” he related to News Room Sport Thursday.
“Being the 12-second champion for last year, I am very hopeful in remaining a champion this year, having a longer track now, I am aiming to dominate the 13-second category,” he further expressed.
“I didn’t participate in the first leg of drags this year because I was out of the country; not sure who are my competitors in this time bracket. I have not driven on this new track as yet, but I am pretty sure the launch-pad will help me lower my times,” contended Singh, who has been a part of the sport for 13 years.
“My personal goal is to see my Toyota Glanza doing 11 seconds on the quarter mile, however, for this event I will tune to achieve low 13 seconds.”
With Miracle Optical being his sole sponsor, Singh called for fans to come out in their numbers and witness what he terms “the fastest street legal Toyota Glanza in Guyana.”
DEL Ice Co will also award prizes to the fastest 10-second ($200,000), 11-second ($150,000) and 12-second ($100,000). Tickets for adults cost $1000 and children $500. Action starts at 09:00h.
