Guns, ammo, mask among items recovered in Police operation

Police at the weekend recovered four illegal guns along with a  quantity of ammunition during stop and search operations on the West Coast and East Coast of Demerara.

Police Headquarters revealed that ranks in ‘D’ Division on Sunday at around 19:45hrs intercepted a car on the Ruby Access Road, East Bank Essequibo (EBE) and managed to arrest three of the five occupants while the two others fled into the bushes.

A search of the vehicle revealed a black mask, a toque, two hoodies, a pair of gloves and an unlicensed pistol with three live ammunition.

The suspects are in custody assisting with the investigation and efforts are being made to apprehend the others.

Meanwhile, the Police also searched another car at Parika Backdam EBE and found an unlicensed handgun with two live rounds and three spent shells.

The 45-year-old driver of Good Hope, East Bank Essequibo, is being processed for court.

On Monday at around 11:30hrs, Police in ‘C’ Division went to the home of a 26 -year-old labourer of Middle Walk, Buxton, East Coast Demerara (ECD) where they found two unlicensed handguns, six live rounds of ammunition and 33 grams of cannabis.

The suspect is being processed for court.
