Inmate beaten to death at Lusignan prison

One day after he was beaten with a wood by another inmate while at the Holding Bay of the Lusignan Prison, East Coast Demerara, Samuel Little died at the Georgetown Public Hospital Wednesday morning at around 10:00hrs.

Prison Director (ag) Gladwin Samuels told the media that Little of Stewartville, West Coast Demerara, was a remand prisoner who was admitted to the penitentiary on June 19, 2019, for breaking and entering and larceny.

According to Samuels, the prisoner was referred to the Georgetown Hospital from the prison’s infirmary.

Samuels could not say what injuries Little sustained that resulted in his death but noted that he and another inmate had an argument when he was beaten at around 14:00hrs.

It was noted that the suspect has been identified and is assisting with investigations.
