Father, son remanded for $4.7M robbery

A father and son appeared before Magistrate Faith McGusty Wednesday for allegedly robbing a woman of $4.7M worth in cash and jewellery on June 11, 2019, at Republic Park, East Bank Demerara (EBD).

Imran Alli, a 20-year-old construction worker of Tank Street, Grove EBD and his father, Richard Edwards, a 48-year-old landscaper of School Street, Albouystown, Georgetown were charged jointly.

They both pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that they robbed Tulesha Singh at knifepoint of a quantity of gold jewellery along with local and foreign currency amounting to $4.7M, the property of Isaiah Kumash.

Police Prosecutor Ceon Singh told the court that Edwards is employed by the victims and plotted with his son to commit the robbery.

Magistrate McGusty remanded the father and son to prison until July 17, 2019.
