Fifty-nine-year-old Mahadeo Dasrat known as ‘Bahhagee’ was on Wednesday found guilty by a 12-member mixed jury for the offence of rape.
Dasrat was on trial before Justice Brassington Reynolds at the High Court for raping a 25-year-old woman on April 11, 2017, in the county of Essequibo.
He was represented by Attorney Rabindra Mohabir while the State was represented by Prosecutor Seeta Bishundial.
“I’m very sorry” were the words of Dasrat when he addressed the court following the guilty verdict.
The matter is adjourned to Thursday morning for sentencing and a victim impact statement.
