Belvedere Primary crowned Sueria Manufacturing Wind-Ball champs

Belvedere Primary defeated Fyrish Primary by 27 runs in the final of the Sueria Manufacturing Inc. Inter Primary School Wind-Ball cricket competition, organised by the Albion Community Centre Cricket Club.

Played recently at the Albion Community Centre Ground, Belvedere Primary won the toss and elected to bat, rattling up 63-3 off their allotted five overs with Faraz Moses hitting 31 and Javed Haniff chipping in with 17. In reply, Fyrish Primary made 36-3 from their five overs with Nicolas Subramani hitting 28 not out.

The competition was played on round-robin basis among the five Primary Schools within the Lower Corentyne area, namely Gibralter, Fyrish, Cropper, Albion Back and Belvedere Primary.

This tournament over years has been used as part of the Albion Community Centre Cricket Club’s effort to attract young cricketers to the club.

Cricketers such as Veerasammy Permaul, Devendra Bishoo, Gudakesh Motie, Jonathon Foo, Kandasammy Surujnarine among others have graduated from this competition over the years.

Earlier in the day, Belvedere Primary defeated Gibralter and Albion Back to book their place in the final, while Fyrish Primary defeated Albion Back and Cropper Primary to secure their spot. In the other matches played, there was a win each for Gibralter Primary and Cropper Primary.

At the presentation ceremony, Vemen Walter, President of the Albion Community Centre Cricket Club, commended the five Primary Schools for their participation and extended special congratulations to Belvedere Primary for winning the competition.

He also stated that overs the years this competition was used to recruit young cricketers for the club. Walter also mentioned that the Cricket Club will be holding its Cricket Academy in July, 2019 and urged all the young cricketers to enroll for the Academy.

Walter also expressed gratitude to the Managing Director of Sueria Manufacturing Inc., Frank Sanichara, a former Albion cricketer for his continued partnership with the Club in sponsoring this important competition.

Also speaking at the presentation ceremony were Community Development Officer of Albion/Port Mourant Estate Orvin Mangru and Sales Representative of Sueria Manufacturing Inc., Yogeshwar Persaud.

Mangru encouraged the youngsters present to join the historic Albion Community Centre Cricket Club which he claimed is among the best cricket clubs in Guyana and the Caribbean as a whole.

He also urged them to focus on their education and emphasised that sports and education can go hand in hand.

Persaud thanked the Albion Community Centre Cricket Club for organising the competition and disclosed that his company was very much delighted to be part of the tournament and more so to assist in the development of youths.

He also lauded the five Primary Schools for their participation and congratulated Belvedere Primary for winning the final and to have played unbeaten in the competition.

The winning team received a beautiful trophy and cash incentive, while the runner-up team also received a trophy and cash incentive.

Young Subramanie of Fyrish Primary carted the batsman trophy for scoring 80 runs. Dhanesh Parbudial of Albion Back Primary grabbed seven wickets to cop the best bowler prize, while Subramanie was judged the Most Valuable Player of the competition for stroking 80 runs and taking two wickets.
