Twenty-three-year-old Alfred Taylor of Stanleytown, West Bank Demerara appeared before Magistrate Leron Daly charged with the robbery of two Secondary School students at the Stabroek Market Square.

Taylor pleaded not guilty to the charges which alleged that on June 27, 2019, he robbed Keith James of a Samsung cellphone, a sliver band along with cash totalling $113,000.

It is further alleged that on the same day in question and location, Taylor robbed Akash Persaud of a cell phone valued $35,000.

Police Prosecutor Sanj Singh told the court that the articles were recovered in Taylor’s possession when he was searched by the Police.

Singh objected to bail based on the seriousness of the charge and the fact that the defendant is a repeat offender.

Magistrate Daly, however, released Taylor on $80,000 bail on each charge and adjourned the matter to August 2, 2019.

The court heard that the accused was captured by public-spirited persons who handed him over to the Police and the stolen items were found inside his pants pockets.
