A driver is in Police custody following the discovery of 124 pounds of cannabis at Weldaad, West Coast Berbice late Friday night.
Police Headquarters revealed that Police ranks were on roadblock duty on the Weldaad when at about 23:30hrs, they observed a Georgetown-bound vehicle stopped before the roadblock and shortly after two males were seen in a nearby street with two large bags.
According to the Police statement, when the ranks challenged the men, they dropped the bags and escaped.
The bags were checked and found to contain 22 parcels of cannabis. The cops then searched the vehicle but nothing illegal was found.
