Officers of the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) on Tuesday morning conducted two raids in Berbice and discovered a large quantity of marijuana.
In a statement to the press, CANU said two persons were arrested and remain in custody including an ex-police detective identified as 28-year-old Khushyal Grant No. 2 Village East Canje Berbice.
Grant was arrested in connection with 94.347 kilograms (over 200lbs) of cannabis while 34-year-old Kerry Charles Grimmond of New Amsterdam, Berbice was arrested in connection another 140 grams (less than a pound) of suspected cannabis.
CANU said both men are in custody assisting in investigations but did not provide further details on the operation or provide the location where the drugs were found.
