Two years jail for possession of unlicensed gun

A 33-year-old carpenter of Laing Avenue, Georgetown was on Tuesday sentenced to two years imprisonment for the possession of .32 revolver when he is not a licensed firearm holder.

Paul Bishop was sentenced by Magistrate Annett Singh at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court after he was found guilty of having the illegal weapon in his possession on October 9, 2018, at Freeman Street East La Penitence, Georgetown.

The News Room understands that on the day in question, Bishop was on a bicycle when Police stopped him, executed a search on his person and found the weapon in a black plastic bag he had in his possession.

Upon being arrested, Bishop allegedly told ranks that he found the gun in a pile of sand in front of his gate.
