Seventeen-year-old Randy Smith of Laing Avenue, Georgetown was remanded to prison Wednesday by Magistrate Faith McGusty for the possession of 266 grams (nine ounces) of marijuana.

Smith pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that he had the illegal substance in his possession for the purpose of trafficking on June 30, 2019, at D’Urban Street, Georgetown.

Police Prosecutor Ceon Blackman told the court that on the day in question, police on mobile patrol observed Smith on a bicycle acting in a suspicious manner.

They stopped and searched him when the marijuana was allegedly found in a bag that Smith had in his possession.

The teenager did not have legal representation and told the Court that his brother asked him to collect the bag from a female.

Smith claimed not to have known what was inside the bag.

The Prosecutor objected to the teen being released on bail citing the prevalence of the charge and the punishment it attracts.

The Magistrate remanded Smith to prison until July 24, 2019.
