Mexico defeated the United States 1-0 on Sunday night to win the 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup in front of a crowd of 62,493 at Soldier Field in Chicago.

Jonathan Dos Santos scored the game’s only goal in the 73rd minute.

Mexico GK Guillermo Ochoa came up huge for his side inside the opening five minutes, thwarting U.S. star Christian Pulisic from close range.

Moments later, Ochoa was counting his lucky stars as Jozy Altidore was clean through on goal, only to roll his chance inches wide.

Mexico Captain Andres Guardado then put one over the bar from a slide in the 16th minute.

Paul Arriola and Pulisic were also both unable to capitalise on meaningful opportunities for the U.S. before the break.

The U.S. came inches from christening the scoreboard five minutes after the restart, Jordan Morris heading a Pulisic corner-kick past Ochoa only for Guardado to head it off the line.

Mexico began to control the game as the second half wore on. Raul Jimenez came close in the 67th minute, but his chance deflected just wide.

Six minutes later, a soft back-heel touch from Jimenez set up Dos Santos, his first-time, curled, left-footed shot hitting the underside of the crossbar before going in, sending Soldier Field into sheer bedlam.

This is Mexico’s eight Gold Cup title, the most of all time. (Concacaf)
