Billingy, Moore to represent Guyana at World Hopes training

Budding table tennis stars Jasmin Billingy and Malachi Moore have been nominated to represent Guyana at the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) World Hopes Training in the Dominican Republic from August 11-19.

The training is the precursor the Caribbean Table Tennis Federation Mini and Pre-Cadet Championships from August 19-27 in the Spanish-speaking island.

ITTF criteria states: “The Under-11 camp has a requirement that the players must not have been 11 years as at January 1st 2019. A player can turn 11 this year, but must not be 11 on January 1st 2019.”

Over the weekend, Billingy won the national Under-11 title after she was unbeaten in the round-robin stage. Her victories came over Qvanna Torrington (11-3, 11-4, 11-3), Samara Sukhai (5-11, 11-8, 11-9, 13-11), and Akira Watson (11-4, 11-5, 11-4).

She also won the U-13 title when she topped Sukhai 11-3, 11-3, 11-9 in the final. On the other hand, Moore won the Under-11 title by defeating Ebo McNeil 11-9,13-11, 11-8.

Jonathan Van Lange added the Under-13 accolade to his Under-15 and Under-18 titles, while the Novice title went to Gavin Narine.
