Guyana’s top badminton player Narayan Ramdhani on Monday began two one-week camps, geared to edify newcomers on the basics of the sport, while sharpening the techniques of those who already have a foundation in the game.
Ramdhani, who is currently on his annual break from University in Canada, is spearheading the six-day event, which will wrap up on Saturday.
With a total of 60 participants, sessions are being held from 10:00h to 12:00h at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue, and from 14:00 to 16:00h at Marian Academy.
In an effort to get the youths to continue playing the game even after the camp ends, they were presented with Yonex racquets.
“We are happy to see such a great turn out at both venues and the interest the young players are showing during their training sessions,” the Guyana Badminton Association (GBA) said.
Under its Smalta brand, Ansa McAl Trading has hopped on board as a sponsor of the camp, and the GBA is hopeful that partnership could be long-term.
The camps have attracted students from Marian Academy, Queen’s College, Bishops’ High School, North Georgetown, Success Elementary, St. Joseph High, Mae’s Primary, St. Roses and Christ Church.
