A seventeen-year-old boy of New Providence, East Bank Demerara (EBD), who is accused of killing his friend during a row over $500, appeared before Magistrate Dylon Bess at the Children’s Court charged with manslaughter.
It is alleged that the teen on July 7, 2019, Grove, EBD unlawfully killed 21-year old Mervin Squires.
The teenager was not required to plead to the charge and was pleaded in custody at the Juvenile Holding Center. The matter is adjourned to July 19, 2019.
According to police reports, on the day in question about 11:00 hrs Squires, a labourer who resided at 1st Field Kaneville, EBD and the teen were gambling cards when an issue arose over $500.
As a result, Squires allegedly pulled off the teen’s necklace. The teen, in retaliation, stabbed Squires twice to the left side chest with a knife.
Squires was rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Center where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
