A 20-year-old miner was on Wednesday charged with three counts of armed robbery including the armed robbery of Guyana’s motor-racing ace, Kristian Jeffrey, which occurred in May.
Shamar Charles of Water Street Agricola Public Road, East Bank Demerara, was weeks ago acquitted of an armed robbery charge but is now remanded to prison until July 31, 2019.
He appeared before Magistrate Faith McGusty Wednesday.
The first charge alleged that on May 26, 2019, at Agricola Public Road, while being armed with a gun, he robbed two-time Caribbean Group Four champion, Kristian Jeffery of a $400,000 gold chain, $10,000 wallet along with $15,000 cash.
It is alleged that on the same day and location, Charles while being armed with a gun, robbed Jermaine Inniss of a $440,000 gold chain.
He pleaded not guilty to these charges.
The third charge alleged that Charles on July 10, 2019, at Lombard Street, while being armed with a gun and in the company of another, robbed Tessa Profon a $135,000 cell phone along with a gold chain and band valued $400,000. He also pleaded not guilty to this charge.
According to reports, on the day in question Proton was standing along Lombard Street when Charles rode up to her on a motorcycle, pointed a gun and relieved her of the items.
The court heard that Charles was positively pointed out by Profon during an identification parade.
