Police arrest pregnant woman who threw filthy water on protesters

A pregnant woman was Friday morning arrested at Barack and High Streets, Kingston Georgetown after she threw dirty water on protesters who were on the public road.

Supporters of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) mounted a protest calling on the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) to begin preparations for General and Regional Elections immediately.

The protesters were forced to march between Barack Street and Wight’s Lane since Police placed barricade at the intersections leading to GECOM Headquarters.

As the march ended, protesters converged at Barack and High Streets where they continued their chants – “We want elections now.”

Among the protesters was PPP Presidential Candidate, Irfaan Ali when the woman who was in a yard next door, approached the fence and threw a bucket of filthy water at the protestors and Police Officers who were surrounding the crowd.

Police Officers subsequently entered the yard and a female Constable proceeded to place a handcuff on the woman and escort her out of the premises to the Police Station.

A senior officer at the scene said she will be charged for disturbing the peace and provocation of the protestors.
