Opposition Leader Bharrat Jagdeo in a letter on Saturday to President David Granger requested that the President and Cabinet resign forthwith.

In the letter dated July 20, 2019, Jagdeo also requested that the Head of State issue a proclamation to dissolve the 11th Parliament of Guyana and fix a date for the next General and Regional Elections to be held on a date which is not beyond September 18, 2019.

The letter signed by Jagdeo outlined that the Caribbean Court of Justice on July 12 issued an order which declares that “upon passage of the motion of No-Confidence motion in the Government, the clear provisions of Article 106, immediately became engaged.”

Article 106 (6) of Constitution of Guyana states that “The Cabinet including the President shall resign if the Government is defeated by the vote of a majority of all the elected members of the National Assembly on a vote of confidence.”
