Guyana’s national football team, the Lady Jags, inflicted a 3-1 drubbing on Suriname on Sunday afternoon to end Group A of the Concacaf Women’s Under-20 Championship Qualifier in pole position.

Playing at the National Track and Field Centre, Leonora, the Guyanese chalked up their fourth consecutive win to finish on 12 points, three ahead of second place St. Lucia.

Maybe the only blemish on an otherwise outstanding display was the goal conceded on Sunday, the only time the Guyana keeper was beaten in the tournament.

Prior to this game, the Lady Jags defeated Bermuda, Antigua and Barbuda and St. Lucia, all by 2-0 margins.

On Sunday, Tiandi Smith scored her second goal of the competition to open Guyana’s scoring in the seventh minute. Five minutes later, Tori DeNobrega doubled the advantage, and captain Brianne Desa made it 3-0 in the 35th minute.

Three minutes into the second half, Tryfosa Sastrokromo pulled one back for Suriname to prevent Guyana from ending the tournament without conceding a goal.

Suriname ended fourth in the Group with three points, ahead of Antigua and Barbuda, who lost all their games. Bermuda finished third with six points.
