Police are investigating the armed robbery of 36-year-old Jagdis Gealall who lost one of his fingers after he was chopped and robbed of his cell phone by a lone bandit in the wee hours of Tuesday.
The News Room understands that Gealall, a security guard, reported for duty at the Mount Sinai Nursery School at News Amsterdam when just after midnight, he noticed the masked bandit charging towards him with a cutlass.
“This man face tie up, all I could see is his eyes…so all I could do to save me was bar with my left hand.”
Gealall said the lone bandit then requested he hand over his cell phone; he complied and perpetrator ran towards the back of the school and escaped.
He received chop wounds to his foot and left hand.
The security guard told the News Room that he called out for help and when no one responded, he walked a short distance and collapsed.
When he regained consciousness, he was surrounded by Police.
The security guard was taken to the New Amsterdam Hospital where he remains a patient.
