Three Zeelugt East Bank Essequibo (EBE) residents on Wednesday appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan charged with the murder of 20-year-old fisherman Alvin known called ‘Chockoloo.’

Arnold Bruce Kennedy, Tavish Mangra both age 19 along with 26-year-old Richie Mahase were charged jointly.

The trio, all of whom are fishermen, were not required to plea to the capital offence which alleged that on July 18, 2019, at North Zeelugt, EBE, they murdered the 20-year-old man.

Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield told the court that Alvin and his brother Devendra ‘Shameer’ Seenarine were imbibing at a relative’s home in Zeelugt but subsequently left on a bicycle when they were attacked by the three accused who were armed with cutlasses.

Alvin was discovered motionless with multiple wounds about his body and taken to the Leonora Cottage Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The Chief Magistrate remanded the trio to prison until August 6, 2019, and transferred the matter to the Leonora Magistrate’s Court.
