Organisations such as hospitals, rehabilitation centres and homes for senior citizens interact daily with many persons, who are faced with challenges that limit and or prevent mobility. Wheel chairs are just one form to assist the caregivers in daily routines and help the individual regain some amount of independence.

In collaboration with the Mohan Thani Foundation, the Rotary Club of Georgetown last weekend distributed a total of 55 wheelchairs to several organisations in Georgetown and beyond.

Representatives of the organisations, which include the West Demerara Regional Hospital, Ptolemy Reid Rehabilitation Centre, Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, Gentlemen Outreach and Ladies of Charity expressed their appreciation to the club and the Mohan Thani Foundation for the gesture.

“One representative was moved with the receipt of the pediatric wheelchairs as it personally affects her when she see parents trying to lift an eight-year-old who is unable to walk at the time,” Rotary Club of Georgetown said in a statement.

As the club celebrates its 60th year of dedicated service to communities in Guyana, it will continue to offer assistance in six main areas, namely Peace and Conflict Prevention/Resolution, Disease Prevention and Treatment, Water and Sanitation, Maternal and Child Health, Basic Education and Literacy and Economic and Community Development.

“The club will continue to partner with Mohan Thani and other organisations offering “Service above Self” and through the small gestures we will work to see the vision where “Rotary Connects The World,” the statement concluded.
