A shop owner of Bartica, Region Seven was on Wednesday charged for operating a brothel where he allegedly sexually exploited Venezuelan women.
Seon Dawson called “Red man” who operates a shop at Upper Mazaruni River, was nabbed during a raid by ranks from the Police Trafficking in Person (TIP) Unit.
He was hauled before City Magistrate Faith McGusty where he pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Dawson was released on $100,000 bail with the condition that he report to the Guyana Police Force (GPF) Headquarters at Eve Leary every Friday until the completion of the trial.
The matter will be recalled on August 5, 2019 before the Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.
It is alleged that during the month of June, 2019, he knowingly used his shop at Upper Mazaruni River as a brothel.
According to reports, ranks from the TIP unit recieved a “tip-off” that Dawson was using his shop to sexually exploit female Venezuelan nationals.
When the officer arrived at the shop along with representatives from the Ministry of Social Protection, the women were rescued and taken into protective custody.
Note: A brothel is a place where people engage in sexual activity with prostitutes. Technically, any premises where prostitution commonly takes place qualifies as a brothel.
