Guyanese cricketer charged with assaulting cop
Guyanese cricketer, Christopher Dion Barnwell, on Monday appeared before City Magistrate Sherdel Isccas-Marcus for allegedly assaulting a Police Officer at Thomas Lands, Georgetown, during a cricket match.
Barnwell, of Berbice, pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that on March 25, 2019, at Thomas Lands, he assaulted Police Officer Trevor Benn.
He was released on $30,000 bail and the matter is adjourned until August 19, 2019.
The Prosecutor alleged that on the day in question, Barnwell and Benn were part of a cricket match when an argument ensued between them.
At the time of the incident, Benn was not on duty.
During the ordeal, it is alleged that Barnwell became annoyed and pushed Benn to the ground. Benn received minor injuries to his hands.
