Fisherman charged with rape of Venezuelan woman

A 21-year- fisherman was on Wednesday remanded to prison for allegedly raping a 26-year-old Venezuelan woman.

Jomal Bunbury known as ‘Pang’ appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan and was not required to plead to the charge, which was read in camera.

It is alleged that Bunbury on August 3, 2019, at Hosororo Stretch, North West District, engaged in sexual penetration with the woman, without her consent.

He was remanded to prison until August 20, 2019, and the matter is transferred to the Mabaruma Magistrate’s court.

The News Room understands that on the day in question, the victim was awoken by Bunbury, who broke into her home and raped her.

After committing the act, he escaped and was later arrested by the police.
