Unbearable heat and not being able to see the full quarter-mile action were among complaints of patrons in the VIP area at previous Drag Race events held at South Dakota.

However, those discomforts could be things of the past, as come August 25, when the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club stages the International meet, better systems would be activated.

The club is currently constructing an elevated VIP viewing area, just aback the staging area which will have a shed, possibly portable air-conditioned units, and washroom facilities.

Club President Rameez Mohamed, in a recent interview with News Room Sport, explained, “We have noted the concerns of our fans after previous meetings and this (has) prompted us to implement these features. We want to ensure our fans get the best viewing and most importantly be safe.”

“It is a process. It takes time. If you look back a few years ago, we had nothing of the sorts, no launch pad, not the best of amenities for our faithful fans, but we now have and it will only get better.”

With regards to those spectators outside the VIP area, Mohamed indicated the aim is to get a few temporary bleachers for best viewing, given the best of the beastly speed machines are set to be on show.

Additionally, the club is constructing a road to an estimated value of $3,500,000, which is sponsored by B.M Soat and Mohamed’s Enterprise, to make the event more efficient. The road will lead to the launch pad and will avoid competition cars having to cross the track to reach the staging area.

“As a committee we sat and looked at where we can get better. This meet on August 25 will be huge, there will be lots of fast cars and we want fans to get their monies worth. If we don’t have to be pausing for cars to cross, we can get more races and finish early. After this meet, we will look again how to improve further.”

Just as the previous meet, cash prizes will be awarded. US$100 will go to the best burnout, compliments of GT Tuners and West Coast Customs Wash Bay and US$100 to the fastest reaction, which is sponsored by Imran Auto Works.

Del Ice Co. will also award $100,000 to the winners of the 11-second and 12-second category.

Other sponsors include R. Kissoon Contracting, Deryck Jaisingh Trucking Service and Machinery Rentals, Prem’s Electrical, E-Networks, Trans-Pacific Auto Sales, Cyril’s Taxi, Blue Spring Water, Choke Gas Station, Miracle Optical, Tropical Shipping and Hand-in-Hand Insurance.

General tickets cost $2,000 each, VIP Tent $3,000, while children under 10 are admitted free. Start time is 09:00h.
