Port Mourant family beaten, robbed, locked inside washroom by bandits

Three bandits armed with a gun and cutlasses attacked, beat and robbed a family as they sat under their house relaxing on Sunday evening at Dispensary Dam, Port Mourant.

The family, who operates a grocery shop, had to seek medical attention for injuries sustained during the ordeal.

Speaking with the media, Indira Samaroo said she along with her husband and son had moments before sent a visitor off, when one of the three men approached her husband with a gun and demanded that he hand over $4M.

Indira said the bandits gun-butted her husband, stomped him to the chest, beat him in the face and kicked him about the body when he told them he does not have all that money.

Indira said the bandits them turned their attention to her and hit her across the face with the cutlass.

She recalled that one of the bandits grabbed her by the hair and dragged her on the concrete to inside the house where he continued to demand money.

Indira was taken to the bedroom where she handed over a handbag containing some cash.

Indira said the bandits ransacked the house and threatened to kill her and her 18-year-old son.

She found it strange that one of the bandits demanded that her son hand over a backpack he wore earlier in the day.

The bandits then locked the family inside a washroom before escaping.

In addition to the money, the perpetrators also stole three Tablet devices, three watches, two wallets, three cellphones-and the keys to the family car.

The robbery occurred at approximately 21:30hrs. Police from the Whim Police Station and the Rose Hall Outpost showed up at the scene long after the incident occurred.
