West Indies look to snap India’s winning streak
Five matches into the series and West Indies are yet to taste victory against India, the only blip for the tourists being a rain-out opening ODI in Guyana last week.
After sweeping the T20 series, India have taken the lead in what has effectively become a two-match ODI series, and West Indies would look to end the limited over segment of the series on a positive note tomorrow.
Realistically, West Indies wait for a first ODI series victory since 2014 will continue even if they win tomorrow in Trinidad.
A victory for West Indies would draw the series 1-1 with the first game washed out in Guyana, while an India win would secure a 2-0 series success to go with the 3-0 result in the T20s.
West Indies were competitive in patches in the second ODI in Trinidad, bowling well at the back-end of the innings to restrict India to 279 after they were on course to breach the 300-mark.
Virat Kohli had to dig in, in sweltering heat to shepherd the innings, notching up his 42nd ODI ton. Despite the early loss of Chris Gayle, West Indies were on course for the win at 179-4, before slipping to 182-8.
Evin Lewis, who struggled with a calf injury during the run-chase, has recovered well and is tipped to start in the playing XI on Wednesday.
Fabian Allen is also fit and will most likely replace Oshane Thomas, who went wicketless and leaked runs in his four overs on Sunday.
With the series still not decided, India might once again field an unchanged XI. The weather is expected to be humid once again, with a forecast for showers throughout the day.
Although teams batting first have won five of the last six completed ODIs at the venue, the chance of rain might tempt the captains to bat second.
