The Ministry of Public Infrastructure has hired five operators from Peter’s Hall, East Bank Demerara to operate the elevators attached to the pedestrian overpass in the community.

The lift was commissioned on Friday morning. While pedestrians have been utilising the overpass since 2018, the elevator was not operational.

According to the Ministry, the operators will be working a shift system from 6:00 hrs. – 14:00 hrs. and from 14:00 hrs. to 22:00 hrs. The decision to close the elevators at 22:00 hrs is as a result of fewer pedestrians after that time.

The operators will also be outfitted with safety vests and radio sets.
