A Grove, East Bank Demerara family is now living in fear after they were attacked by a lone, masked gunman at around 03:00hrs Monday.

The News Room understands that 49-year-old Marica Fredericks was waiting on a taxi inside the yard when the gunman jumped the fence, grabbed her by the hair and dragged her inside the house.

According to information received, the bandit used his gun to beat the woman to the head as he demanded money.

The woman’s two daughters began to scream; the eldest ran to the back of the house while the 18-year-old battled with the gunman.

But the gunman pointed the gun and threatened to shoot her. After the family pleaded with him and said they don’t have any money, the bandit stole a cell phone and left.

As he was leaving, he fired one shot at a dog, which then alerted neighbours.

The News Room understands that even though neighbours called the Police Station in the same area, no one showed up until 06:00hrs – hours after the incident.

The family is renting a section of the property in the lower flat and are now contemplating relocating.
