Police are on the hunt for two men who shot a 62-year-old member of the Rural Constabulary during an attempted robbery on Monday morning.
Police Headquarters revealed that the victim, who is the bodyguard of a Government Minister, was shot twice to the lower region of his body.
The victim is in a stable condition at a medical institution.
The Police, in a brief statement, revealed that the bodyguard was at Market Street, East Ruimveldt, Georgetown at around 06:30hrs when two men on a motorcycle demanded his jewellery.
It was noted that the victim, who is issued with a force handgun, resisted the bandits when he was shot by the pillion rider.
Police Headquarters revealed that the bandits escaped empty-handed after the bodyguard discharged a round in their direction.
The News Room understands that the bodyguard is assigned to Minister within the Ministry of Social Protection, Keith Scott.
