The Ministry of Public Health Wednesday received 100 hospital beds from Food for the Poor (Guyana) and two ambulances from the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB).

Minister of Public Health Volda Lawrence said the timely donation will ensure that patients have proper and comfortable care.

The beds will be distributed to health facilities across the country.

“These beds, I can assure you, will reach as far as Region One in all three sub-regions and we will also be addressing Kato in Region 8,” the Minister said.

Food for the Poor has been collaborating with the Ministry over the last twelve months to meet needs in Regions 5, 6, 3, 2 and 8.

“Every day we are looking at how we can provide services at the various health facilities in our rural communities,” the Minister said.

Jimeel Davis, Senior Manager for Food for the Poor, said they have been working with the Ministry of Public Health and other Ministries for the past 28 years and have seen great improvements.

The two new ambulances will be placed in Regions 3 and 4 and were handed over to the Regional Health Officers of those regions.

The ambulances have all the needed equipment – an incubator, first aid kit and oxygen.

“I have every confidence…that this will be used for the benefit of the people in these two regions,” the Health Minister said.
