Former 13-second champion Imran Khan is looking to redeem himself this weekend at the International Drag Race Meet after enduring a lean spell in recent times. His ambitions of copping the top podium spot have been boosted with the injection of some much-needed sponsorship.

Khan has been a dominant force in the 13-second class for quite some time. In the shorter drag strip that was previously used, Khan won the category three times.

He is looking to transfer that success to the full quarter-mile track that is now used by the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club.

This weekend is another opportunity for him to grab that fourth title in his Toyota AT150 Carina, which is now powered by a new turbo engine and a recently signed three-year sponsorship deal.

Caribbean Motor Spares, SR Auto Spares and Auto Motorsport Services of Trinidad and Tobago are standing in Khan’s corner from this weekend and he is looking to represent their brands to the fullest.

Khan said he is extremely grateful for the sponsorship as motor-racing is a very expensive sport and such partnerships are critical to ensuring competitors consistently come to the line.

Khan added that his teams has been working overtime over the past weeks to guarantee a smooth and championship-winning drive come Sunday.

The West Demerara driver is congnisant the 13-second class would be very competitive and he is in no way underestimating his rivals on race day. However, he is confident of being top of the podium when the dust settles at South Dakota.

The event will be held over two days with qualifying on Saturday and the knockout on Sunday. Competitors from around the Caribbean will be here to challenge the locals.
