Prison inmate sets mattress on fire
A section of the New Amsterdam Prison
An inmate at the Security Block of the New Amsterdam prison on Thursday evening set his mattress alight.
According to Director of Prisons (ag), Gladwin Samuels, the fire which was set around 19:15 hours by Delon Boucher was quickly extinguished by Prison Officers on duty.
Samuels said the prisoner was aggressive to the officers and received lacerations to his head and above the left eye.
He received medical attention and is in a stable condition.
According to reports, Boucher was sentenced to prison for break and enter in 2015.
