Drag Race: Trinidadians eyeing fastest times at South Dakota
Trinidad and Tobago’s drivers and riders are in Guyana and they are on a mission to cart off the honours of the fastest when they compete at the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club’s International Drag Racing meet tomorrow at the South Dakota Circuit.
Andy Bissessar and his rail car, Jagdeo ‘Mad Cow’ Seecharan and riders Ian Atherly and Mikey Mathurine are in Guyana with their machines of speed, ready to do battle.
Seecharan will pilot his Nissan R32 Sklyline, which is the 10-second champion car in Trinidad, while Atherly, in his Kawasaki ZX14, has a record time of 8.5 seconds on the quarter mile which was set in 2017. Mathurine will drive a Suzuki Hayabusa.
At a press briefing on Friday, ‘Mad Cow’ posited that once conditions are good, they are ready to take the titles of the fastest in the categories they will compete.
“We came with the rail car; it is not the fastest we have…but we brought something which is an eye-opener and if that car hooks up on this track, I am assuring you, we will go home with the fastest time. We intend to put down a very good show once the weather holds.”
He added, “We are looking to go home with the fastest bike, fastest car and fastest street car…it will be a very good race day and we hope you enjoy the show.”
The rail car pushes at 850HP Chevy Pat Musi Motor which reset the record at Wallerfield Raceway to 7.2 seconds at 180mph in 2017.
Team Trinidad will face stiff competition from the likes of Team Mohamed’s GT-R, Trans Pacific Toyota Altezza among other fast cars from Guyana.
General tickets cost $2,000 each, VIP Tent $3,000, while children under 10 are admitted free. Start time is 09:00h.
