With exactly a week to go before the start of the Hero Caribbean Premier League 2019, the Government of Guyana and the Guyana Amazon Warriors signed off on the Host Venue Agreement for matches to be hosted at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence.
The Warriors will play five home matches at the venue.
The Agreement was signed by Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Social Cohesion Melissa Tucker and Team Operations Manager of the Guyana Amazon Warriors Omar Khan in the presence of Minister of Social Cohesion Dr. George Norton and Assistant Director of Sports Melissa Dow-Richardson.
Speaking after the signing, Khan said, “Honourable Minister, on behalf of CPL Guyana Inc., we are very happy to be able to sign this Agreement with the Ministry of Social Cohesion and more importantly the Government of Guyana for hosting the CPL games in Guyana in 2019. Thank you very much for your support and we do look forward for a very successful CPL 2019.”
Dr. Norton stated, “Cricket is in the air. We know what cricket is to the Guyanese society and we’re certainly glad to be a part of this annual tournament where persons from all walks of life, from the different geographical areas, the different communities will all come out to enjoy the game of cricket.”
Guyana was the last of the six host nations to sign the Host Venue Agreement.
“Of course we could have only signed this Agreement with approval from Cabinet, and while we were making all efforts to do it even before now, this is the time we are able to do so,” Dr. Norton clarified.
