CPL: Shoaib Malik to captain Guyana Amazon Warriors

Not surprisingly, the former Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik has been appointed skipper of the Guyana Amazon Warriors for the 2019 Hero Caribbean Premier League.

This was confirmed on Friday afternoon by Head Coach Johan Botha during the Warriors first training session at the National Stadium, Providence.

Malik, 37, is vastly experienced. He first played international cricket for Pakistan in an ODI in 1999.

The classy right-hander has appeared in 345 domestic T20 games, scoring over 8,700 runs at a strike rate of 125 and picking up 136 wickets at an economy rate of 7.02. He also represented Pakistan in 111 T20 International games, racking up 2,263 runs and claiming 28 wickets.

Malik has also played for the Barbados Tridents in the CPL. In 44 CPL games, he has managed 1,390 runs with 10 fifties, while claiming 10 wickets.

The Guyana Amazon Warriors squad reads: Shadab Khan, Nicholas Pooran, Shoaib Malik, Shimron Hetmyer, Ben Lauglin, Chris Green, Keemo Paul, Sherfane Rutherford, Brandon King, Romario Shepherd, Odean Smith, Keagan Simmons, Chandrapaul Hemraj, Veerasammy, Permaul, Anthony Bramble and Clinton Pestano.
