No Guyanese were able to qualify on pole in their respective category, but they are cautiously optimistic they can inspire a change in fortunes on Sunday.
Andrew King, Kristian Jeffrey, Rameez Mohamed, Danny Persaud and Mohan Rangasammy are representing Guyana at the Barbados’ International Race Meet at Bushy Park.
After official practice and qualifying on Saturday, Group Four competitor Andrew King will start second on the grid to long-time rival Mark Maloney. In the battle of the Mazda cars, Maloney produced a best lap time of 1:02.387s, compared to King’s 1:03.048s.
“The car had a very good practice today. We are doing a few adjustments tonight to improve our performance tomorrow (Sunday) so we can probably end up in a better position,” King told the media on Saturday.
According to King, being second on the grid is probably the best position they have had since touring the Island and believes his team can help him cut the gap.
Rangasammy’s best time of the day was 1:08.149s, but he is confident the mechanical issues he encountered can be resolved to enhance his chances of an improved showing.
Persaud, who is a Group Three competitor in the combined Group Three and Four, had a best time of 1:08.119s.
Additionally, Mohamed, though not at full capacity due to some tire issues, feels he has the capability to win three races in the Group Two- Class Two.
Meanwhile, in the SR3 Radical Series, Guyanese ace Jeffrey will have his work cut out to topple F1 prospect Zane Maloney.
Maloney, who has experience driving F3, has a best time of 58.653s followed by William Mayers of Jamaica (58.794s), Stuart Maloney (58.889s), Kristian Boodoosingh (59.289s) and Mark Maloney (59.576s).
Jeffrey, who was running some sub-minute times earlier, produced 1:00.356s. Sunday’s action-packed 17-race programme, organised by Bushy Park Motor Sports Inc., will commence at 11:00h.
