Convicted prisoner escapes, breaks into Prison Officer’s house


A convicted prisoner who was working on a farm next to the New Amsterdam Prison in Region 6 made his escape after scaling the fence but ended up in the yard of a Prison Officer on Tuesday.

The prisoner has been identified as Rameshwar Prakash of Skeldon, Corentyne Berbice. It is unclear what offence he is currently serving time for.

The News Room understands that sometime before noon, the man was working with others when he seized the opportunity to escape.

Information reaching the News Room revealed that upon entering the Prison Officer’s yard, the convict used a ladder, broke and entered the house, changed his clothes and escaped with approximately $17,000.
