Thirty-six-year old Nandram Ganesh walked out of the Demerara Sexual Offences Court a free man after a 12-member jury returned a unanimous not guilty verdict on two rape charges.

Ganesh was on trial before Justice Simone Morris-Ramlall at the High Court, where the jury found him not guilty engaging in sexual penetration with a 26-year-old woman during the month of January 2014 and April 28, 2014.

Ganesh was represented by Attorney-at-law Stanly Moore, SC, while the State was represented by prosecutors Teriq Mohammed and Sarah Martin.

Justice Ramlall told Ganesh to give thanks to God.

Ganesh’s attorney had contended during the trial that his client had consensual sex with the alleged victim.

“I feel relaxed after six years,” Ganesh told reporters following the verdict.
