In a move aimed at decentralising the sport, the Guyana Badminton Association (GBA) has donated a quantity of equipment to the Mackenzie High School in Linden.
Shavin Greene, the Physical Education Teacher at the institution, recently received a donation of racquets, nets and shuttlecocks to begin an active badminton programme at the school.
Greene, who was part of a two-day training session hosted by the GBA last month, was edified on the rules and regulations of the sport with the aim of effectively running a badminton programme.
The GBA has promised to make periodic visits to the school to gauge the progress made and give the necessary guidance and expertise.
Meanwhile, the GBA has planned an age group tournament for the second weekend in October. Open to all schools, the tournament will see rivalry at the Under-11, 13, 15 and 17 levels.
