Banks DIH Limited, through its Rainforest Waters brand, has renewed its partnership with Courts Guyana Inc. for the ninth annual Courts 10k Road Race, set for Sunday (September 15) around Georgetown.

The local beverage giant made the commitment during a presentation ceremony on Thursday at Courts Guyana’s Main Street Office to hand over the sponsorship cheque for the event.

Aubrey Huston, President of the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG), and Communications Manager of Banks DIH, Troy Peters, both spoke glowingly of the partnership and the success of the race over the years.

The 10k race will attract most of the country’s leading male and female distance runners in what is regarded as the leading road race at this distance locally. The race will start and end at Courts Store on Main Street, Georgetown.

Employees of the company will compete in the 3k race, while there will also be a Golden mile (1500 metres) for children between 10-16 years old. Over $2 million is cash and other incentives will be up for grabs.

AAG President Huston is encouraging the public to come out and support the event, which gets underway at 06:00h.

According to the AAG, 140 athletes have registered thus far for the event. Among those names are overseas competitors, along with Cleveland Forde, who lost last year to Winston Missigher.

Missigher ran a time of 33 minutes, 29 seconds to win his first Courts 10k, after finishing ahead of favourite Forde, by one second in the closely contested event.
