The Guyana Shore Base Inc. (GYSBI) held a celebratory reception Thursday to commemorate the company’s 2nd Anniversary at the Guyana Marriott Hotel.
It was highlighted at the reception that in just two years the Guyana Shore Base employed 272 Guyanese – which represents 93 percent of the staff.
The GYSBI was formed by four companies –Muneshwers Limited, Pacific Rim Constructors, LED Offshore and TOTALTEC Oilfield Services – with complementary skills and experiences in shore base construction and management in 2016.
In early 2017, the company won a contract from US oil major ExxonMobil to support the drilling and production activity offshore Guyana.
General Manager for Guyana Shore Base Inc. Mark Edwards said the initial plan was to develop a container’s port but since the discovery of oil offshore Guyana in 2015 the company shifted to work in the industry.
“There is more to come in the future, GYSBI has already acquired land for the next phase of development,” the General Manager said.
Country Manager and President of Esso Exploration and Production Guyana Limited (EEPGL), Rod Henson said GYSBI’s transformation and progress since 2017 is commendable.
“You (GYSBI) really are a critical part of our logistics chain, really linking the onshore to the offshore and responsible for so many things,” Henson said.
EEPGL is a wholly owned subsidiary of Exxon Mobil Corporation.
GYSBI provides ExxonMobil with infrastructure, including secure open and covered storage, docking for two supply vessels, operational, personnel and loading/unloading logistics support.
Rig contractors and major service companies are now making use of the base.
“It’s important to help people understand what this industry is all about and how it actually works and to see your country men and women in this industry making a difference,” Henson said.
Meanwhile, Director of GYSBI Robin Muneshwer urged foreign companies coming to Guyana to team up with reputable local companies to promote network and alliances.
The Director said the company’s growth over the two years has been exponential since they only started with about four employees.
He noted that safety culture at GYSBI is one of its best achievements.
“It has grown, it has overwhelmed us, it has been a great challenge but I have learnt a lot working with these guys, certainly while the keys have been the safety culture that they brought with them and we have done safety at our company but this a whole new ball game,” Muneshwer said.
The Guyana Shore Base will be expanding the base location at Houston, Greater Georgetown.
This will also expand the employment opportunities for many Guyanese.
