A vehicle attached to the Ministry of Communities, Central Housing and Planning Authority Tuesday afternoon burst into flames on the Rupert Craig Highway in the vicinity of Rubis Service Station.

Eyewitnesses told the News Room that the vehicle bearing registration number PNN 7686 was proceeding east along the highway but suddenly stopped after smoke started to emanate.

The pick-up subsequently burst into flames. The driver identified as Wilbert Mingo, and passenger Daniel Persaud exited the vehicle and ran towards the seawalls for safety.

The Guyana Fire Service subsequently arrived at the scene, but the News Room understands that they had no water and had to resort to sourcing water from the flooded road after heavy rainfall to quell the fire.

Ministry Officials at the scene told the media that they will be releasing a statement on the incident.
