A 17-year-old boy was on Wednesday found guilty by a 12-member jury for raping a 6-year-old girl in 2016.
The teen was on trial before Justice Simone Morris-Ramlall in the Sexual Offenders Court at the Demerara High Court.
The teen was placed in the custody of the Juvenile Holding Centre, where he is to remain until his next court date in October for sentencing and a probation report.
He was found guilty of engaging in sexual activity with a child under the age of consent between November 16, 2016, and November 31, 2016
According to reports, the child was playing in the defendant’s yard when the accused, who was 13-years-old at the time, committed the act.
The matter was reported to the Police and the teenager was arrested.
