The Chairman of the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) Justice (ret’d) Claudette Singh said she considered “all objective factors” before informing President David Grange that GECOM will be able to deliver credible elections “by the end of February 2020.”

In the letter to the President, seen by the News Room, Justice Singh spared all of the details in advising the President of the date.

“I am cognizant of that fact that both you and the nation are anxiously awaiting the specific information in relation to GECOM’s readiness to conduct credible elections in the shortest possible time.

“In this regard, I shall forego, for the purpose of this letter, the lengthy explanations, considerations of law, procedures and logistics that inform my decision,” she stated.

The President summoned an emergency meeting of his Ministers to discuss the letter. His office has not yet made an official statement.
