CPL: Warriors face Tridents on Sunday; aim for sixth win
Table-toppers Guyana Amazon Warriors would look to solidify their position at the top of the Hero CPL leaderboard when they take on hosts Barbados Tridents on Sunday. A win for the Warriors would almost certainly confirm their spot in the Playoff.
The Shoaib Malik-led Warriors have been a dominant force in Hero CPL 2019, winning all five of their games thus far, including the last two on the road.
The four-time finalists are the only unbeaten team at this stage of the competition, and their consistency has earned them the tag of one of the favourites to lift the title on October 12 in Trinidad.
Despite being away from home for Sunday’s contest, the Warriors will start as favourites, having won four of the last five completed games between these two sides.
In their clash at Kensington Oval last season, the Warriors were comfortable winners by eight wickets, chasing down 166 by the 17th over.
That momentum continued with the Warriors when these two sides met at Providence on September 8 last, with the home side winning by 47 runs.
In that game, Chandrapaul Hemraj made a career-best 63, before Nicholas Pooran and Sherfane Rutherford added 78 in just 4.5 overs to take the Warriors to 180-4.
Romario Shepherd claimed four wickets and Shadab Khan had two as the Tridents were dismissed for 133, despite some lusty blows from Ashley Nurse.
The Tridents, fourth on the points table, have played four games this season, winning two and losing two. The match will bowl off at 18:00h.
