Guyana’s top female badminton player Priyanna Ramdhani has secured a badminton scholarship at the Olds College in Alberta, Canada, where she will represent the college team Broncos.

The national and Caribbean age group champion will be pursuing a Diploma in Business and Sports Management. Priyanna’s brother, Narayan, is also on a badminton scholarship in Canada.

The Guyana Badminton Association, in a statement on Tuesday, said it is pleased at the opportunity being afforded to Priyanna, as it will help to catapult her game and significantly increase her chances of one day competing at the Olympic Games.

Only a month ago, Priyanna dominated the Caribbean International Open Championship in Barbados, copping the coveted Triple Crown, winning all her age group categories.

Head Coach of Broncos Mary Smith, who drafted Priyanna, was quite pleased to have the Guyanese onboard.

“Priyanna is a force on the courts, winning a triple crown at the Caribbean games this past year, and ranked number one in Guyana. Priyanna has grown up with badminton since she was a young girl having her father as her coach and her brother as a team mate.  Priyanna has a champion’s heart on and off the court,” Smith stated.

She continued, “Her positive attitude, determination, commitment to her studies, and support of her team mates exemplifies what it is to be a Bronco student athlete.  Priyanna also has her sights on the Olympics and we are here to help her achieve her dream. Olds College Broncos Badminton team is thrilled to have Priyanna join the team this season.”
