Fmr. Aviation Chairman found tied up and unconscious in Sophia home; dies hours later

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of 63-year-old Hugh Denbow, the former Chairman of the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA).

The News Room understands that Denbow was found by Police lying face up in an unconscious state with both eyes open in the kitchen at his Lot 1 Area D Plantation Sophia, Greater Georgetown on Monday morning.

Reports indicate that his hands, feet and neck were bound with several ties and the entire house was ransacked. He lived alone.

Denbow, who was an engineer, was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he died on Monday night.

Police said that there was no forced entry found but a southern door was unsecured.

It is suspected that the Denbow was tied up since Saturday, as he was last seen Friday by residents.

Denbow worked as an engineer at Orinduik Development Inc and after calls to his phone went unanswered, the Manager of the company made a report to the Prashad Nagar Police Outpost.

Police ranks along with the Manager visited the man’s home when they made the gruesome discovery.

A resident, who did not want to be named, described Denbow as very friendly.

“The man don’t make trouble, the man is a cool man…nice big man,” the resident told the News Room.

The resident explained that he saw the Denbow’s gate opened on Sunday and called out to him but got no answer.

“Sunday I was to wash he house, he carry we Friday and show we where to power spray the house…so Sunday morning I went and buy gas, and I see he gate wide open so I call for he and me ain’t hear nothing so I come away.”

Police are investigations are ongoing.
